Hostel Pekarna is located just a stone's throw away from the Maribor city centre, but is immediately surrounded by nature and culture. The name of the hostel (pekarna = bakery) is derived from its location, as the hostel and its surrounding buildings were historically part of a military facility providing bread for the Austro-Hungarian and later Yugoslav army. Youth culture, the promotion of which the hostel is intended for, is expressed in the colourful scheme of the hostel's hallways and rooms. However, this is only fully expressed in connection of the hostel with its environs, in particular the youth centre in the same building as the hostel, and the centre of alternative culture, which the hostel is in fact a part of. When entering or leaving, the guest is treated to a sight of a smaller park, filled with artistic creations and exhibits. In addition, a larger city park is located in the vicinity, perfect for relaxation. The Hostel is fully connected to the rest of the city, with a train station and a city bus station mere meters away, alongside other vital infrastructure, including the hospital and several shops, cafes and restaurants. The center of alternative culture is also full of life, with two concert halls and a large second-hand bookshop.
The hostel is part of the Maribor Youth Culture Centre, the goals of which are reflected in the hostel's interior. The large variety of group and single rooms, all equipped with private bathrooms, and some with kitchens and balconies, is diverse enough to fulfil any needs a guest might have. Alongside the rooms, the hostel offers a large dining room and communal kitchen, along with a well-equipped room for socialising. Furthermore, free parking and two sunny terraces are available to all guests, the latter especially ideal for relaxed sunbathing in the summer months. The hostel offers free wi-fi and use of a public computer and tablet computers in the communal area. Large groups looking for a place to carry out workshops, lectures and other events can rent three large lecture rooms, equipped with cutting edge audio-visual equipment. Breakfast is available for all guests at the lowest possible prices, with lunch and dinner being available for larger groups.
For those guests who long for a more active vacation, various sports equipment is available at the reception, from basketballs to yoga mats, bicycles, hiking staves, badminton racquets and more, all ready for use in the nearby parks and playgrounds. For others, who would rather sit down with a good book, the hostel is well stacked with books in many different languages. Alongside this, the hostel offers various packages for their stay, which alongside lodging include a visit to the Pivola botanical park, a wine degustation in the House of the Old Vine or the Mini Adventures adventure package for independent exploration of the city of Maribor, with packages for neighbouring cities also available. Most importantly, the connection between the hostel and the youth centre just a single floor below, the most recent information about and applications for are available for various culture workshops, festivals and various other events, directly from the organisers of these events.
Hostel Pekarna extends a warm invitation to guests of all ages and groups!
