Youth Hostel Idrija

Hostel Idrija is part of the Youth Center Idrija and is the central meeting point for young people in the UNESCO-protected town of Idrija. Set in a beautful natural environment, it is an ideal location for exploring cycling and hiking trails. Due to Idrija's small size and cultural richness, the hostel is only a few minutes' walk from the center and all the interesting tourist spots.

Originally built before World War II as a convent for nuns, Hostel Idrija was later transformed into a student dorm. Following that, a community of young locals and international volunteers contributed to its conversion into a welcoming haven for travellers. Open to all who need a place to stay, Hostel Idrija provides a safe and friendly environment for all visitors, regardless of demographic or purpose of visit.

The hostel offers overnight stays without meals. There are several double and triple rooms available, as well as one four-bed and one eight-bed room, all equipped with bedding and towels. Guests have access to two shared kitchens with a dining area, shared bathrooms, and a common area where they can use a computer, play board and video games, and read books that are available. Comfortable armchairs provide a cosy corner for relaxed socializing with other hostel guests. All services in the common area are free, including internet access. Additionally, guests have access, by prior arrangement, to a new conference room, a classroom with a projector, a multipurpose room with speakers, various games, ping-pong tables, and a small gym. Use of certain additional facilities is subject to an extra charge.

The hostel also offers a shared space on the large renovated terrace, partially sheltered by a roof, providing the opportunity for outdoor activities even in bad weather. The reception offers a range of refreshing drinks for pleasant gatherings on the terrace. In good weather, the gathering can also be moved to the adjacent children’s playground, which is located next to the free parking lot in front of the hostel. The playground is equipped with benches, offering a beautiful view of Idrija.

Hostel Idrija welcomes groups as well as solo travellers of all ages, families with children and pets. Special offers are available for groups, which can include breakfast and other meals by prior arrangement. Guests can rent e-bikes to explore Idrija Geopark or other trails recommended by the hostel’s reception team.
