A trip to Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia, gives travellers an opportunity to experience holidays, tourism and other areas in Australia which, with an area covering 7,741,220 square kilometres, depicts the life of the modern and Aboriginal Australians. Australia’s capital is Canberra. The entire continent, together with its 8,000 islands, has a population of 23,470,000. Australia consists of six federated states, three internal federal territories and seven overseas territories. The federated states are New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania. The three internal federal territories are the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory and the Jervis Bay Territory. In addition to the seven overseas territories, namely the Ashmore and Cartier Islands, the Cocos Islands, the Coral Sea Islands, the Heard Island and McDonald Islands, the Norfolk Island, the Christmas Island and the Australian Antarctic Territory, the country also encompasses micronations, such as the Principality of Hutt River, the Independent State of Rainbow Creek, the Empire of Atlantium and others.
Australia’s central part has seen four changes in the past one hundred years. It transitioned from South Australia to the Northern Territory and South Australia, and then to Central Australia, North Australia and South Australia in 1927, later merging again into the Northern Territory and South Australia, with Central Australia ceasing to exist. In 2013, groups of Aboriginal Australians founded their own country that is independent from Australia. They named it the Murrawarri Republic, but it hasn’t been recognised by Australia.

Before you travel to Australia, it’s good to take a look at some of the basic information about the continent. You can start by decoding Australia’s flag.
