There’s a new YHA hostel, named YHA Lake Tekapo, waiting for you at the heart of nature, on the shore of Lake Tekapo and in the middle of New Zealand’s South Island. The physical structure of the hostel with its large windows offers gorgeous views of the lake and the Southern Alps. State Highway 8, a well-known tourist route, also passes by the lake, connecting the island’s natural wonders.
The hostel’s special physical structure was built by taking into account the area’s natural and cultural heritage. Large windows in the kitchen and living room offer gorgeous views of the lake all year round. The hostel is environmentally friendly and uses solar water heating and photovoltaics to generate energy. It can accommodate 120 guests in its dorms and private rooms. There will be a special burger night on Friday evenings where guests and locals will have the opportunity to socialise.
The hostel can easily be reached within three hours from the Christchurch Airport. There are plenty of activities awaiting you in the hostel’s surroundings. You can go hiking or on a ski trip in the nearby mountains. Aoraki/Mount Cook, New Zealand’s highest peak, is in the hostel’s proximity. The night sky there is unpolluted which is why it’s recommended to go stargazing. When looking at the night sky you can see the Southern Cross that is only visible in the southern hemisphere. You can check what the Stargazing Tour offers at Get Your Guide, where you’ll also get a free torch and some hot chocolate. After all the adventures, you can rest your tired limbs at Tekapo Springs.
This hostel is one of the 35 quality budget YHA hostels, enabling travellers to comfortably explore New Zealand.
