New Youth Hostel in Vienna

The "old battleship" in Vienna, HI Vienna Brigittenau, which has enjoyed more than 2.5 million overnight stays since 1982, received an ultra-modern overhaul this summer.  The recently opened Youth Palace will bring a new quality to the facilities and will make the HI Youth Hostel Vienna-Brigittenau, with almost 500 beds, the largest hostel in Austria.

Together with the young and creative team of architects "A2K" and the "Werkstatt Wien", the owner and operator „Verein Wiener Jugendherbergen“ has focused on climate protection and the sustainable use of resources.

The new house is built as a low-energy consumption house, with water-water heat pumps, which use ground water to heat the building in winter and cool it in summer.  Solar collectors will produce hot water and rainwater will be collected in tanks and used as process water (eg for flushing the toilets).

All two-bed rooms will now have their own facilities and the good old bunk beds will be replaced in the new "Youth Palace" with beds that can be used as single as well as double beds.

Another highlight is the 300+ square meter large hall in the new and modern building, which houses the reception, lobby and communications area.  However, the "mother" Youth Hostel, HI Vienna-Brigittenau, will also have many new benefits.  For example, for guests arriving by car there is now a parking garage in the basement with 25 parking spaces.
