Summer is the time when Brežice, a charming town in lower Posavje region, comes alive! For the eight year in a row, the traditional festival »Brežice, moje mesto« is an overture into carefree summer days. The festival attracks thousands of visitors from all over Slovenia to the old city center - this year the counter stopped at 12.000! This lively event brings the summer to the region in the full meaning of the word.
High air temperatures and refreshing waters of the Krka river and nearby streams lure locals to the hidden corners of these natural beauties, lately with more and more foreign tourists eager to spend their vacations in an active way - with adrenaline experiences and good fun.
Only a kilometer and a half from the city hustle, situated right along the Krka river, is the Recreational center Grič. You can lay back on the well groomed grass getting a nice tan, enjoy swimming in the river, take a canoe/kajak ride, go for a hike or a bike ride through surrounding hills. You can also play beach volleyball, rent a piknic place with a fireplace and try a bit of archery under the guidance of an instructor.
Even adrenaline junkies will get their share of opportunities in Brežice. The activities of a group of sports enthusiasts Blackrock, will not leave you indifferent. You can test your skills of water surfing with a bit of a twist - on rapids of Sava river. It's an inovative approach to exploit the possibilities that nature presents us. Broad variety of ingenious activities are complemented with boulder and technical climbing and other forms of organized outdoor recreation. They offer you a modern form of treasure hunting with a GPS reciever – geocaching – a sport increasing in popularity.
At lake Boršt, only a few kilometers from Brežice, is the first surfing park in Slovenia – First wake park. Once just an attractive local swimming spot, now a true »beach resort« with a 400 meters long wakeboard track. In addition to their regular offer, they also lend you the proper gear for water boarding and water skiing. If you are a beginner they will teach you the basics and show you the ropes. In the park there is a cafe with a water terrace where you can refresh in the hot summer days and enjoy the cold drinks.
