Let’s Go to Berlin

Things to see for an unforgettable experience

We’re still here to help you out when looking for ideas for cheap trips to the surroundings or long-haul flights. If you’re going on a short trip, we recommend taking the bus or train, which will considerably reduce your negative impact on the environment. After all, with four litres of petrol, a train can carry 190 passengers, a bus 187, a car 113 and a plane 54. And when it comes to far-flung destinations, you should opt for direct flights, if possible. That’s because take-offs and landings produce the largest amount of emissions, so it’s better to choose direct flights, even if they’re more expensive sometimes. You can check out this article on how to travel eco-friendly and still have fun.

Main reasons to visit Berlin

This time, we’ve decided to take you on a quick tour of Germany’s capital, a city rich in history and with wonderful art. The things we’d like to highlight are:

  • The Berlin Wall, a barrier stretching for more than 150 kilometres and dividing the city into East and West Berlin between 1961 and 1989.
  • The Brandenburg Gate is a kind of a symbol of Berlin as well as a symbol of peace and unity.
  • The Museum Island is a unique group of five museums listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Drinking coffee and eating cake on the roof terrace of the parliament with a wonderful view of the city.
  • The Grunewald forest where you can rest your eyes from all the concrete.

You can find more useful tips in Alenka’s article. She listed a few excellent ideas about how to explore the city on guided tours through GetYourGuide, which offers affordable services online.

Cheap accommodation in Berlin

You can book your accommodation with the German Jugendherberge, a hostel organisation. There’s the Youth Hostel International in the city centre, an excellent starting point if you want to explore the city, since a lot can be covered by foot. The hostel also has a beer garden, something that’s always a good idea at the end of the day. Or you can choose the newer Youth Hostel Berlin-Ostkreuz, located near the Ostkreuz station. It can also be an excellent starting point for exploring the city.

Even more first-hand travel info about Berlin

Now that cheap accommodation has been taken care of and we’ve got you hooked on the idea of visiting the majestic German capital, let’s take a peek at some travel tips from our travellers. Matej recommends exploring Berlin by bike. And when it comes to the winter season, let us give you a hint – Berlin has an excellent underground network. Aleš explored the city with his fellow students. Nika highly recommends that you book your accommodation as soon as possible. Of course, this doesn’t mean you have to book months in advance, but it might often be crucial if you want to keep the costs low. There’s always a lack of available accommodation in the city during summer, as well as during major fairs and other events, which often take place in Berlin. And then there’s Nastja’s adventures. She decided to visit Berlin in winter. These travelogues were written quite some time ago, though. Perhaps you could be the one to write a fresh new article about Berlin. What do you think?
