It’s no secret that every traveller’s biggest wish is to go on a trip at least a few times a year and that a plane ticket is at the top of the Christmas wish list (well, let’s be honest, at the top of the list of gifts for any occasion). And despite that fact that the greatest feeling is when you already have a new plane ticket in your pocket even before your trip ends, travellers actually appreciate every little thing related to travel. Travellers usually like to write down highlights from their travels and they often store their old plane tickets and event tickets in a dusty old box. You can encourage your favourite traveller to start writing a travel diary and keep a neatly organised account of their memories. You can buy them a simple notebook with more sturdy covers (and write something on them), or create a bullet journal, which will result in a perfectly personalised Christmas gift.
Passport cover doesn’t just protect the passport covers from curling, it also comes with extra pockets for plane tickets, credit cards and other things. You can buy one with a travel inspired inscription, or you can choose a uniformly coloured one and then “decorate” it how you want. Are you good at sewing? Trains, airplanes, hostels... Sometimes it’s hard to fall asleep with all that noise (and light) and quality sleep is very important for travellers – we do need our energy for long days of exploring! Soap and shampoo are indispensable little things that can be found in each toilet bag. But since travellers usually try to save up space and don’t want to take large bottles with them (the contents of which are used up even faster), they’ll truly like scented and practical Christmas gifts! If making solid soap or a shampoo is too much for you, try to ask around – surely there’s someone nearby who makes homemade soaps. That way you can put a smile on the face of your friend traveller as well as the person who turned their hobby into a business.
There’s never enough travel is the motto of every traveller and, even when we’re at home, we like to think of our past travels. Travel themed scatter cushions for bedroom or living room will make every traveller happy! You can buy one’s that are already travel themed, but you can add your own personal touch by making the covers yourself. Buy the fabric and the zippers and sew the cushion covers (or ask your grandma again). Do you happen to have old scarves or shawls (with traditional patters) from your travels lying around in a drawer and don’t use them anymore? You can use them instead of the fabric!
Do you know what your travel friends’ favourite foods are? Instead of ordering a cook book online, you can make this inexpensive Christmas gift yourself. Print out any number of recipes, add photos and then bind them all together into a booklet. You can also buy an empty notebook, fill it up with a few recipes and then leave the rest empty – that way travellers can create their own collection of their favourite recipes from all over the world.
What could be better than a good morning aromatic cup of coffee (or tea)? A mug that reminds you of travel adventures, of course – the past ones or the ones that are yet to come. It doesn’t take much skill to draw the world map or an outline of a world attraction on a mug, or maybe you can even write down an inspiring travel thought. Or you can find a photo studio online that will print your chosen theme on the mug for a few euros – simple, yet unique.
