Art Hostels in Italy

Content

Since last September 2011, 6 of our 8 ‘art hostels’ have been opened.

The creation of these art laboratories has been possible thanks to OSTHELLO, a project developed by the Italian Youth Hostel Association in partnership with the Youth Department of the Italian Government.

Thanks to this initiative - unique in its kind - real ‘art laboratories’ have been arranged in the youth hostels involved in this pilot project (8 at the moment, but it will be extended throughout the whole Italian YH network): hostels have been equipped with screening rooms (cinema), recording rooms (music), rehearsal rooms (theatre), journalism lab, visual arts workshops and common spaces for performances, screenings and exhibitions.

The eight hostels involved in the Project are the following:
- Bologna and Perugia for music;
- Cagliari and Florence for movie;
- Genoa and Naples for theatre;
- Matera for visual arts;
- Trieste for journalism.

Courses and seminars are already available in these hostels and they are completely free of charge. They are available for everybody and not only for people sleeping at the hostels, turning the youth hostels into real cultural houses and getting young people closer to their passions, through educational activities and trainings based on the principle of ‘learning by doing’.

Labs activities are directed by worldwide known tutors: the movie labs are currently directed by Mr Gianfrancesco Lazotti, famous film director and screenwriter; music labs are directed by  Mr Vittorio Nocenzi, composer and piano player;  the theatre labs and activities are directed by Massimo Romeo Piparo, the greatest director of Musicals in Italy.

Other two art labs will be presented soon and will be the Visual Art laboratory in Matera and the Journalism laboratory in Trieste.

Stay connected to OSTHELLO and you will get all the information about courses and latest news about the project. You will also be able to book your stage, to book your access to art labs, to read curiosities or tutors’ biographies.
