Kanal ob Soči is located in the western part of Slovenia along the border with Italy. Kanal is an administrative center and the medieval town with a rich cultural heritage. The stone two-arched bridge, the symbol of both the town and the municipality, connects two banks of the Soča river together. In Kanal you can admire the old part of the town, which consists of Church of the Assumption from the 15th century, the Neptune’s fountain, the medieval stone square Kontrada with Gothic house, a memorial room and gallery of Riko Debenjak.
The municipality can boast with a reservoir at Kanalski Vrh, which is used to produce electricity. On the territory of the municipality there are many of the remains and ruins from the first World War (private collections, caverns, ...).
Kanal ob Soči is also famous for its numerous events
Bridge jumping (August) – this is the most popular event in our municipality, which attracts many visitors' attention. The divers jump into the water from a height of 17 metres. Every year, the event is opened by an exhibition of old-timer vehicles; Donkey races (August), an International Festival of contemporary music »Kogojevi dnevi« (September-October), Chestnut festival in Lig (October), Downhill Avče (April) , the Cultural Days of the Globočak (June), Summer party (August), Trail in footsteps of Valentin Stanič (March) and many others.
