It has been exciting year for Globetrotter, don't you think?
We are happy of each and every article, written by our volunteers or by hostels to promote their location, town or novelty. Travelling is what connects our newspaper and it’s why you like reading it so much, so we have to thank you for your time, spent behind the computer, remembering and reliving your adventures for us.
Content
Globetrotter in 2017 has provided you with some amazing content and this year, in 2018, it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Exciting, isn’t it? Let’s walk through the 10 issues of 2017.
In January, our volunteer Nastja wrote about Wonderful Bled. She tried the famous Bled cream cake and enjoyed her morning coffee in Vila Prešeren. I’m sure everyone’s mouths were watering while reading her article. Nastja, take us to Bled and we can try Bled cream cake together! In February Globetrotter, our volunteer Tina spoke to us in Polish. She was amazed at three cities: Zakopane, a city she didn’t know before and Gdansk, a city where the protest against the government started and ended communism, and Wroclaw, a student city with dwarves lying around the centre.
In March, you were able to read about Boštjan Šifrar’s life, about his travels, lifestyle and thinking. A great interview was written by our Anja Turk. Boštjan Šifrar gave one advice: everyone should live in isolation for some time. When you’re alone, you have the time to find yourself and to discover what you want to do with your life, he says. Do you agree?
We could read another interview in the April Globetrotter. The Journey of Zarja Kambič was written by our volunteer Petra Kosi. Zarja was really talkative and gave us some motivation to start travelling. She said that you don’t need a lot of money to travel. You can travel with a very low budget if you know some tricks. Find out which!
This year, we could also read the travelogues of Iran, written by Igor Jurišič who definitely revealed us some secrets, broke some prejudices and we were amazed. In May, he wrote about Isfahan, third largest city in Iran. In June, we travelled to warmer places. Miran Šinko took us to Women’s Island in Mexico or Isla Mujeres. We’re still drooling over the beautiful pictures. Beaches, interesting history, ferries to Cancun… What else can we wish for?
The summer edition of Globetrotter promoted volunteers. Our volunteer Sandra Meglić travelled to Norway in June where she will stay for one year. She revealed why, what she does and some other interesting insights. What does she miss the most? Good food! In September, our volunteer Tina Škorjanc and some other HI Slovenia volunteers travelled to Budapest and discover this wonderful city. They visited the Buda’s castle district, Chain Bridge and jumped in Balaton lake for the end of the trip. Fun!
In October, Boštjan Šifrar decided to write a travelogue and we were all up for reading it. He travelled to Madagascar and decided to share some stories with us. Which sort of transport did he pick to travel around the island? A motorbike of course! Our last issue of Globetrotter in 2017 was also interesting. Rok and Katarina Hočevar were kind enough to write a travelogue of South Africa and convinced us to put this country on our bucket list. They also provided us with some interesting facts like that hippos can’t swim. Did you know that?
2017 has been amazing year for Hostelling International Slovenia and for Globetrotter and this year, we’re excited for the 10th anniversary. We’re in the process of renovating our webpage and Globetrotter will also get a new image. We’re excited to see what happens and we’re excited to read your adventures. Happy travelling and say HI to the world.
