Karst has numerous thematic trails and hiking trails, as well as side paths where hidden elements of Karst shine even more in their beauty. Each season is in its own way special for hiking. But in the winter, the nature is asleep and maybe this is the reason why it's even more attractive.

Nearby Pliskovica, there is a path from Sežana to Tomaj called the “Kosovel trail”. It is a 7km long marked trail which ends with a tour of the Kosovel homestead in Tomaj. The same path also leads from Sežana to Lokev from where you can climb the 647m high hill Kokoš. From there you can also continue the hike on the Italian side of the border. This trail is considered one of the most beautiful trails of Karst. In Štanjel, you can visit the “Fabiani trail” which is, as the name suggests, dedicated to Karst architect Maks Fabiani.
If you would like to enjoy the view of the sea while hiking, we suggest you jump over the border. In Sistiana, there is the “Rilke trail” which runs above the gulf of Sistiana. In Opcina, there is the start point of the “Napoleon Road” from where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the city of Trieste.
