New York City is located in the United States state of New York. It has 8,930,002 inhabitants and is the largest city in New York State as well as the United States. The New York City metropolitan area, which includes New York State, has a population of 20,365,879 inhabitants and a land area of 122,057 square kilometres, while the southern part of the state and the City of New York covers a land area of 778.18 square kilometres. 1. Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a massive neoclassical sculpture, designed by a French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel. The copper statue was a gift from the people of France, as a token of their respect for their common bond. The statue is a figure of Libertas, Roman liberty goddess. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed July 4, 1776 in Roman numerals, the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence (JULY IV MDCCLXXVI). A broken shackle and chain lie at her feet, commemorating the recent national abolition of slavery. The statue is 93 meters tall.

2. Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is a skyscraper in Manhattan, New York City, from the year 1931. The building was designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon, and built in 1931. At 102 storeys, the skyscraper stands 381 metres tall, making it the tallest building in the world at the time of its construction. It is built in the New York Art Deco style, typical of the American modernist period before World War II. Originally lit by reflectors, the skyscraper is now illuminated by LEDs. The skyscraper has several floors dedicated to viewing the New York City skyline from specially designed viewing platforms that can be reached on the 80th, 86th and 102nd floors of the skyscraper, where several local TV and radio stations have transmitters.

3. One World Trade Center

One World Trade Center is a business center, with 94 storeys and 417 meters tall. The finishing works were carried out in 2015 with designs from an American architect David Childs and the company Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The business center was built after the 2001 terrorist attack on the twin towers of the World Trade Center, making it the tallest building in the United States, and seventh-tallest building in the world. It has three floors of observation towers, making it the highest observation point in New York, with floors 100, 101 and 102. For all culinary enthusiasts, floor 101 offers a One Cafe, One Mix and a restaurant One Dine, which can be rented for various events such as wedding, conferences or presentations.

4. Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center is a complex of 14 buildings on 8.9 acres of land in the 48th-51st Street neighborhood of Midtown Manhattan. The buildings of Rockefeller Center were built between 1930 and 1939 by John D. Rockefeller. The complex is designed in the New York art deco style, before the beginning of World War II. The conceptual design of the building's architecture was developed by architect Raymond Hood and Hood, Godley & Fouilhoux in collaboration with Corbett, Harrison & MacMurray and Reinhard & Hofmeister. The Rockefeller Center as a whole is complemented by the art of painting and sculpture, with the famous Man at the Crossroads mural by Diego Rivera, and Paul Manship's Prometheus and Lee Lawrie's Atlas.

5. The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the biggest museum in the United States. It is divided into two locations, Met Fifth Avenue and another, smaller location, Met Cloisters. The Met Fifth Avenue was designed by Richard Morris Hunt, Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould. It was built in 1880 in the architectural Beaux-Arts style, derived from the Paris School of the 19th century. The Met Cloisters was built between 1935 and 1939. It was designed by architect Charles Collens in an eclectic style, combining medieval, Romanesque and Gothic styles. The museum's departments represent ancient, Egyptian and European art, as well as American and modern art. The Folk Art Collection covers African, Asian and Oceanic art, as well as Byzantine and Islamic art.

6. The Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) was designed by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, John D Rockefeller Jr.'s wife, with two of her friends, Lillie P. Bliss and Mary Quinn Sullivan. Heckscher Building, today known as Crown Building, where the museum first opened its doors in 1929, was rented to provide the museum's premises. The building for the museum was designed by Philip L. Goodwin and Edward Durell Stone in the traditional Beaux-Arts style. In 1939 the museum was moved to a new building. The museum was gradually expanded in the second half of the 20th century and completed in 2004 with the architect Yoshio Taniguchi. The museum's collection comprises 200,000 works of art from the modern and contemporary periods. More than 98,000 reproductions can be viewed on MoMA's website.

7. Central Park

Central Park is the fifth largest park in New York, covering 341 hectares. It was designed by landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. The park was in construction between 1857 and 1876, but opened for the public in 1858. Visitors of Central Park can enjoy the many different activities the park has to offer. The American Museum of Natural History, Central Park Zoo, Guggenheim Museum, Belvedere Castle, Conservatory Gardens, Lasker Pool, Wollman Ice Rink, Tennis Centre, Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, Bow Bridge, Horse Carousel, carriage rides, summer concerts, yoga, fitness classes and bicycle rentals are just some of the activities you can do to brighten up your day.
