No matter how you look at it, Copenhagen is the center of Denmark. And for that reason, visitors to Denmark have to visit Copenhagen. Tivoli changes constantly with a wide variety of exhibitions, concerts, new and exciting restaurants and much more, which altogether makes Tivoli a meeting place for people if all ages.
The world’s longest pedestrian zone is a fascinating experience with a shop for everyone. Also sitting in a café or on a bench doing people watching is a very popular activity with so many people from all over the world visiting this vibrant and modern street. In one part of Strøget, Købmagergade, you can also see the Rundetårn, which is a round church with an old, paved road for horse carriages all the way to the top, build by the King Christian IV. Strøget also begins in Copenhagens main square, Rådhuspladsen, end ends in another big square, Kongens Nytorv, from where you can take a stroll to Nyhavn to enjoy a glass of good, danish beer.
Enjoy Copenhagen from the waterfront, and take one of the many harbour cruises to look at The Little Mermaid, the impressive Opera and enjoy the silence in the narrow canals, winding through the oldest parts of Copenhagen.
See for yourself, where the Queen in the oldest monarchy in the world lives in real life, and see the balcony, from which the royal family of Denmark waves to the crowd on birthdays, weddings, baptisms and more. Even though Amalienborg Castle is the residence of the Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik, when they live here during the winter, as a tourist, you have a unique possibility to see a magnificent castle, full of history and with the Queens Guards parading through the castle square.
In the most visited museum of Copenhagen, you can learn everything worth knowing about Denmarks history. Meet the Vikings and the very special Tollundmanden, and learn history in a new and fascinating way with the use of live pictures, light and sound.
Need a few hours to relax? Then the old garden of his majesty Frederik IV is the perfect place. The lush garden is a former park belonging to Frederiksberg Castle, which you can experience in the southern end of the garden. With wide pathways going through huge areas of old, tall trees and colourful flowers with bridges, birds and big picnic areas, this well kept garden is the most beautiful of Copenhagens many parks. In the southwest corner of the garden, it is also possible to see the elephants play outside the large elephant house of Copenhagen Zoo.
If you want to take a swim or spend a day at the beach, then the biggest beach in Copenhagen is a very good option. Amager Strandpark has 4.6 km shoreline of wide, sandy beaches with a lagoon, an island and a metro stop (Amager Strand Station) just a few minutes walk from the beach. If you want to take the bike, Amager Strandpark is only five km from the city center.
