The Renovated Dutch HI Hostel

Staying at a Norwegian-style hunting lodge in the Netherlands

More than a hundred years ago, the then king of Norway gave away his hunting lodge to one of the caretakers of the Dutch royal family. The lodge is now the Gorssel Hostel and has recently been renovated while still retaining its historical appearance and local charm.

It is located in the Achterhoek region, between the towns of Zutphen and Deventer in the eastern Netherlands. The hostel has a royal feel to it and Norwegian design is also noticeable. During the renovation, special care was taken in order to preserve the lodge’s unique atmosphere, which included keeping deer antlers mounted on the walls. Special care was also taken in order to give the hostel a modern feel to it as well. Plenty of comfortable chairs and sofas can be found in the hostel, calling for you to start a conversation or simply sit back and relax. It’s also possible to stay in log cabins on the hostel premises. You can also rent a bike and explore the wonderful nature that surrounds the hostel. Or, you can sail down the river Berkel and visit the neighbouring towns, the most famous of which is Deventer, known for its rich history and toy museum. The hostel is therefore perfect for a relaxing holiday.
