What to see and do in Copenhagen

In the gardens of Tivoli you will find an amusement park and its old trains, also a century-old roller coaster of death, which are wrapped between flowering gardens and cafés in the city centre. If you fancy a look at modern design, head to the Design Museum, where you'll learn more about chairs than you might think.

Are you suffering from shopping fever? Copenhagen's longest pedestrian-only shopping street is 1.1 kilometres long. The street, which will also be a feast for the eyes, is Nørrebro, which offers many hip cafés, restaurants and a shop with antiques.

Copenhagen's Little Mermaid turned one hundred in 2013. If you haven't heard of it, it's a sculpture you'll find on Copenhagen Pier, a gift from Carl Jacobsen to the city, inspired by Andersen's fairy tale about a mermaid who gave up everything to be with a handsome young prince on land.

North of Copenhagen you will find Dyrehavsbakken, the oldest amusement park in the world, which is more than 430 years old. Of course, there are many other museums, interesting Scandinavian architecture and excellent food.

A great hostel in Copenhagen

You can find accommodation in one of the HI hostels, also in one of the largest city hostels Danhostel Copenhagen City, which has more than 17 floors and offers breathtaking views of the city and the port. It has over 1,000 beds in 192 rooms and offers Wi-Fi, a TV room, a book exchange and one of the cheapest cafés in the city. The Danish hostelling organization Danhostel will certainly not disappoint you with its offer. It can be an excellent companion if you decide to explore Denmark further. And do not miss the small town in Danish Jutland, which has only about 6,000 inhabitants, but it is interesting mainly because of all the familiar toys. This is the headquarters of LEGO and its factory. More travel tips for this city, known as Billund, in one of our past travel articles.
