What to do in Ljubljana?

Ljubljana, the capital of the most beautiful country under the sun, has a special charm in every season. Laughter and happiness spread all over the city as soon as the first spring sun comes out and shines on the city’s roofs and narrow streets. The cafés by river Ljubljanica are full and the paved roads are full of locals and tourists who stroll through the old city centre past Robb fountain and town hall. And what to do in Ljubljana on a sunny day?

A stroll to the castle

Stairs and a nice path lead to the castle on top of the hill. And if you don’t feel like walking, you can take a funicular, which runs every 10 minutes. From the castle wall you can even see the Kamnik-Savinja Alps on a nice, clear day. Nothing beats drinking a cup of coffee and enjoying the view from the castle’s café. This is a simple recipe for a great day. If you’re more interested in history and culture and would like to hear Ljubljana’s every historical secret, you’re kindly invited to one of the exhibitions in Ljubljana Castle that take you to whichever part of Ljubljana’s past you’re interested in. “Time Machine” is a special exhibition where you’re accompanied by knight George and emperor Frederick III., Holy Roman Emperor, Napoleon’s soldier and some other characters who will tell you more about Ljubljana’s history.

What smells so good and comes from Pogačar Square?

If you're going to stroll around Ljubljana on a sunny Friday, you'll be also asking yourself where the delicious smell is coming from. From Pogačar Square of course. A culinary spectacle is going on there from spring to fall for the sixth season in the row. Every Friday the little square by St. Nicholas church changes into a market of different flavours. You can try the specialties of the best Slovenian and international restaurants. Stop by in time of lunch or invite your friends for a delicious burger and craft beer. Odprta Kuhna, as the festival is called, serves great flavour at low price – appetizers, soups, pasta, wok, sushi, hot dogs, desserts, smoothies, a glass of Slovenian wine or home-made ice tea. Everything you can possibly wish for. Gourmet stroll between stalls, excellent food, sitting on the stairs when there’s no space on benches and relaxing chat are what makes every Slovene a street food enthusiast.

Seeing the capital from a SUP.

A fun and different way to explore the city is on SUP (stand-up paddle boarding), organized by Bananaway. Yes, really. You can get to know Ljubljana from a whole other perspective - from river Ljubljanica with a paddle in your hand and on a board. This will be an unforgettable experience, which combines relaxation, sports, exploring new city, hanging out with awesome people, and finding balance. Don’t worry if you don’t have experience. The team of instructors will teach you, then you will choose the SUP and soon you’ll be sailing on the river on your own SUP and exploring the city at the same time. Meeting point is in Špica.

World of illusions or obscured reality?

The world of illusions, skewed images, moving floors, maybe even dizziness, but overall, XXL dose of fun. This is the Museum of Illusions. Amazing, inspiring and unforgettable. Museum offers a fun and diverse world of installations, which take care for a perfect optical illusion in three floors. You’ll be hanging off the ceiling like a monkey and the next minute you’ll be dancing in a disco or swimming to a galaxy of fun. Are you up for it?

Eat the best cake in Zvezda Café

To end a lovely spring day in Ljubljana and to have a rest, go to Zvezda Café and have a piece of the best cake around. The café offers so many different cakes and other desserts that it’s impossible to choose just one. If you’re a chocolate lover, I recommend hazelnut cake. It just melts in your mouth. Yum!
