Cycling in Germany - great opportunities to discover new aspects by bike
Germany is well-known for its cycle routes. They are in good shape and marked with plenty of street-plates. It is easy to make holidays using a bike. And Youth Hostels are suitable for the overnight even most of them have a special certificate.
You can feel the wind in your hair. The landscape with its meadows, fields and woods is passing. Cyclists love this mood. It’s a feeling of freedom. You can stop wherever you want and enjoy the impressions.
Cycling is healthy, good for the environment and, of course, lots of fun. Discover Germany's cities and regions on more than 70,000 kilometres of cycle routes of high quality. More than 200 long-distance cycle routes in Germany offer opportunity for sightseeing in cities and for romantic rides through unspoilt nature.
With cycle routes spanning a wide range of regions, you're spoilt for choice. Cycling is tough but rewarding in the Alps, or for more leisurely tours takes your bike through the vineyards. Ideal for families are the many riverside routes which offer plenty of wayside distraction. Or perhaps you'd prefer to cycle from museum to museum?
Whatever you decide, Germany has a range of cyclist-friendly accommodation – e.g. the youth hostels which are certified with the label
„Bett+Bike“ („bed and bike“).
For travellers just passing through for the night or for those staying on longer to enjoy bicycle excursions, the label „Bett+Bike“ is always the right choice. More than 300 Youth Hostels in Germany meet the minimum requirements of the „Bett+Bike“ label and also offer many comforts and amenities for their bicycling guests:
- Guests are welcome to stay for only one night.
- Bicycles are securely stored.
- It is possible to dry wet clothing and gear.
- The most important tools are available for simple bike repairs.
- In the case of more major breakdowns, the nearest repair shop is ready to help.
- Informational materials, such as regional bike trails and schedules for bus and train, are available so you can find out more about attractive excursions in the area.
- In the morning, when you wake up, a hearty breakfast will be waiting for you.
