A place where technical heritage and nature tell many great stories…
Behind the gates of a former Carthusian monastery you can find Slovenia’s largest museum – The Technical Museum of Slovenia. It is located in the most beautiful natural surroundings on the outskirts of Ljubljana. Several collections can be seen in the museum: from forestry, fishing and agricultural department to textile, printing, traffic and electrical engineering.
Apart from the numerous permanent displays, we also hold temporary exhibitions. The exhibition Sto let brnenja na našem nebu, which is about the Rusjan brothers, runs from 25th March until 7th November 2010. This year we have also prepared a temporary exhibition about the lynx in Slovenia The beginning of the generation of Štefa and Arpad, which will also be on display until 3rd December 2010.
In November visitors can attend several demonstrations, through which they can truly experience the technical spirit of the past.
On Sundays form 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. following demonstrations: demonstration of old textile machinery (14th November), demonstration of horseshoe-making demonstration (21st November) and demonstration of Drazgose bread baking demonstration (28th November). Working demonstrations on Sunday can be viewed with the purchase of the museum ticket.
Saturdays are set aside for adult education courses and workshops where visitors can learn calligraphy (13th November at 9 a.m.), bread baking in traditional earthen oven (20th November at 10 a.m.) and basics of modeling by constructing a model (20th November at 9 a.m.) For all the workshops advanced booking is needed through telephone 01/750 66 72, 041/957 146 or e-mail programi@tms.si.
