Aladin Zoo Ranch in Dolenjska region

Not far from the town of Mirna near Trebnje, in the village of Gomila, there is a real zoo. However, this is not just an ordinary zoo, but a complete experience of animals from Australia, Asia, North and South America, and Europe. In short, the owner managed to bring practically the whole world into this zoo.

The Ranch is named after the largest animal, the two-humped camel Aladin. Aladin is actually a male, because at first I thought it was a girl. He lives with donkeys so that they are not bored and, because they are all young, of course they happily jump around the garden. I saw that the owner Damjan brought them dry bread, which is actually dessert for camels. Otherwise, camels eat hay, fresh grass and bark. They can survive very cold winters and drink from 60 to 100 liters of water a day.

A little further from the camel enclosure you can find mini goats on the ranch. Yeah, you read that right, they’re “mini” sized. And they looked happy jumping around. They are also very friendly.

They also have brown sheep, small bears, lynxes, hedgehogs, Patagonian maras (they are like slightly larger bunnies), raccoons, wild pigs, llamas and meerkats (small animals that are supposed to bite very much), various species of parrots, guinea pigs, kangaroo-like red-necked wallabies and many more.

Of course, we must not forget the rhea, a relative of the ostrich. The rhea is a 1.5-meter-tall bird, native to South America. It’s slightly shorter than the ostrich and emu, and can run extremely fast due to its long legs. Damjan has three rheas on the ranch.

You can really have a great time in the park. Not only can you see different types of animals, there are also many types of family playground equipment designed for the youngest, such as a play tower, slides, climbing walls, swings, sandbox, trampoline, and more.

In addition to animals and playground equipment, the ranch also offers themed games, such as archery and shooting with soft bullets. They also offer catering and you can rent a picnic area inside the ranch as well.

It is also possible to buy some homemade salami. They also offer coffee, ice cream and refreshing drinks.

The ranch is open from March to the end of May and from September to the end of November from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., from Friday to Sunday. In the summer months, however, you can visit the ranch from Wednesday to Sunday.

Tickets are very affordable and with their help Damjan can buy food for the animals, so a visit is very welcome. Payment is currently only possible in cash.

You can read more about the ranch at www.kamela.si or on the Instagram profile rancaladin_zoopark.

Have lots of fun during your visit! I know I will definitely be coming back!
