Rio de Janeiro is probably the most famous city in Brazil that is renowned for its beautiful beaches, such as Copacabana and Ipanema, and interesting landscape. By interesting landscape, I mean the Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar) that rises above the Atlantic Ocean on the peninsula and from which you can enjoy the spectacular view of the city. You can’t even miss the 635-tonne statue of Jesus that overlooks the whole city from the altitude of 710 metres on Mount Corcovado.
If you’re eager to spend some money you can visit the Lagoa neighbourhood, which is one of the most exclusive and most expensive neighbourhoods in South America. There you’ll also find a large lagoon known as Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas that attracts jogging and cycling enthusiasts, but you can also find many cafés and restaurants.
Football is definitely the most important sport in Brazil and Maracanã Stadium is one of the most important landmarks in the city as well as the largest stadium in South America. The Tijuca National Park is also a true sight to behold and was almost destroyed in the 19th century due to coffee plantations. It is home to the tallest peak in Rio, Pico da Tijuca. The Lapa and Santa Teresa neighbourhoods are also worth a visit. Lapa is known for its nightlife, since samba bars are abundant, and Santa Teresa is a neighbourhood that will take you back in time – it used to be a neighbourhood of painters, musicians and writers, and it has still retained the artist friendly atmosphere. You can find more about what you can do there here.
Cabanacopa Hostel is located in a colonial house that was fully renovated with clean and spacious rooms, bathrooms and great common rooms. The building has a 24-hour security and is just three blocks from the famous Copacabana Beach. Mango Tree Hostel Ipanema has a great location within Rio. It’s located just a few steps from the world-famous Ipanema Beach. Mango Tree is a relaxing place perfect for a stay and socialising with other travellers while enjoying the chilled caipirinha.
If you’re visiting during the carnival, then the city will provide the most charming and the most magical celebration in the world. Visit Rio de Janeiro and embark on an exciting adventure – with or without masks.
