You've probably heard that Budapest is a city of spas. The land under our feet abounds in natural springs and wells, that contain several beneficial minerals. They supply the warm, healing waters for the nearly 50 Budapest spas, baths or public pools. Although you probably don’t want to soak in the hot thermal wather, you can still try the cold swiming pools (27 °C), or can chill down in the ice cold basins of the sauna/steam bath area. Most Budapest spas are worth a visit because of their history and architecture as well. More at: www.budapestgyogyfurdoi.hu/en

And if you are ready for a very unique party experience that you only find here in Budapest, than come visit one of the Cinetrip parties organised about once in a month in Rudas or Szechenyi Thermal Bath. DJs, sound systems, giant screens and spot lights add to the dramatic effects. More at: www.cinetrip.hu

No 3. Visiting the House of Royal Wines and Cellar museum in the Buda Castle

You can always hide from the heat in the wine cellars. This one is probably the biggest you can find in Budapest. It’s exhibition demonstrates the Hungarian wine and beverages culture and the handicraft traditions in connection with the viticulture. You can actually taste all the different Hungarian wine, champagne and pálinka here. Just be carefull when coming out to the hot sunlight! More at: www.kiralyiborok.com

No 4. Visiting the Labyrinth of Buda Castle

The Labyrinth of Buda Castle is among the world’s 7 undergournd wonders along with the underground attractions of Paris, Moscow, London and Orlando.

The internationally unique calcareous tufa caves of Castle Hill were created as an effect of the hot water springs almost half a million years ago. Later the small caves were connected to each other and also to the cellarage of the houses of the Castle District for economic and military purposes, and the complex thus developed into a veritable labyrinth under the Castle Hill. In the 1930s, as part of the war-time defense program, the complex of cellars was converted into a shelter large enough to accommodate as many as ten thousand people at a time. Disfigured with concrete, it served as a secret military object during the Cold War. During the reconstruction works, which took place in 1996/97, the almost 10,000 square meters long Labyrinth regained its pre-war look as much as it was possible.

Labyrinth of Buda Castle not only a simple maze, but a web of paths leading to our history, world and ourselves. More at: www.labirintus.com

No 5. Canoeing on the Danube at Romai Part

Romai Part has been the water sport center of Buda since the 1800s. It is still a very laid back promenade along the Danube full of boat-houses, cheap eateries and some new modern cafés, bars and reastaurants as well. The oldest restaurant in the area is the Bivalyos Csárda (Buffalo Restaurant). It has been open since 1798 next to the market place, where the traders used to buy the buffalos from the farmers.

There are companies who are orgainising two-three hour canoe tours on this part of the river, but you can also hire a kayak or a canoe by yourself. You can kayak up to a smaller inhabited island, where the water is still clean, you can go swimming and enjoy the nature. After relax and enjoy the great food on the shore and the Hungarian „froccs”.
