The Old Lake in Tata is one of the oldest artificial lakes in Hungary, made in the middle ages to defend the Castle of the city. The lake has been populated with selective bred carps in the nineteenth century, which laid the foundation of the world-famous Hungarian carp farming.
In our days the Old Lake offers various possibilities of recreation, entertainment and sport, showing its different sides in every season. In autumn it turns to the past, presenting the art of the ancient fishery at the Fishing Festival. The main attraction of the Festival is the netting, when fishermen use a 400 meters long fishnet to catch the carps.
Besides the gastronomical delights visitors are offered various cultural programs, presenting Hungarian folk music bands and folk dancers. The late afternoon and the evening is dedicated to relaxation and fun, with well-known Hungarian performers and street dancing.
This Fishing Festival takes place the 23rd and 24th of October 2010, and presents a really good opportunity for everyone who is interested in gastronomy, nature and folk arts to spend a pleasant and joyful weekend in Tata, the city of lakes.
