New Hostel in Denmark

When you visit a monastery, you expect to see monks, nuns and the like, but at Vitskøl Abbey, a monastery near the Limfjord in Denmark, you will instead focus on beauty, nature and history. This unique building, one of Northern Europe's oldest monasteries, is now open for business as a Danhostel.

With original features such as curved walls, high ceilings, quaint niches and 19 unique en-suite rooms full of charm, a cosy setting awaits you. You get free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel, free parking, use of the guest kitchen and last, but not least, fantastic views. The hostel’s private beach is just a 5-minute walk away, and just behind the hostel is a huge forest. Discover more history in the 850-year old gardens – the hostel’s trademark – with three greenhouses and five lovely gardens. Here medicinal plants, herbs and flowers are beautifully arranged, and you will be awed by the architecture, botany and history.

While the scenery and activities at the hostel will take up much of your time, the areas in and around Himmerland offer a variety of activities. Vilsted Lake, the largest freshwater lake in North Jutland is within walking distance of Danhostel Vitskøl Kloster. Go on a boat ride, stroll along the lake or cycle on the 20 km trail which encircles it. Not far away is Uhrehøj Plantation where you can hike or bike on marked routes. Explore the Moler cliffs at Hanklit and the Moler Museum nearby, cycle on the 12 km Planetary Path, or take a guided tour of the town of Holsterbro with the town’s watchmen to see various sculptures and artwork.

For a fantastic experience in a picture-perfect setting, stay at Danhostel Vitskøl Kloster. We look forward to seeing you.
